Our Massage Team

Karen Otsig is a life long North Shore resident and loves working in North Vancouver. She has established a very solid client base at the Bloom Family Wellness Centre over the last 10 years! She greets everyone she meets with a smile and her warm and welcoming personality can be felt the minute you walk into our office!

She is a graduate of the West Coast College of Massage Therapy and is registered wth the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia. Karen has also completed the Douglas College Doula Training Course and is a member of the Doula Services Association.

Karen’s massage therapy practice includes treatment of a wide variety of conditions including overuse injuries, pain and stress, headaches, postural imbalances, digestive and respiratory disorders and PMS to name just a few. Karen welcomes anyone who is interested in receiving the many and varied benefits that massage therapy has to offer.

Karen has a special interest in health issues that affect women and part of her practice includes working with pregnant women both pre- and postnatal. Karen has spent considerable time researching and studying the many and varied benefits that massage has to offer women in the childbearing year. Karen is a busy mom to one son and is also an part-time instructor at The Vancouver College of Massage Therapy.

Sommer Setterstrom graduated from the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy in June 2005 and is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia and a member of the Massage Therapy Association of BC. Sommer also has taken courses in Cranial Sacral Therapy, myofascial release and visceral manipulation.

Sommer’s therapeutic goal with each client is to seek the source of injury – rather than treating the symptoms – by using a variety of techniques including deep tissue, muscle energy, Cranial Sacral Therapy, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and hydrotherapy. Her clients range from pre/post natal as well as children and infants to national competitive athletes and triathletes (including the weekend warrior!) Sommer also teaches infant massage at Pomegranite Community Midwife Centre in Vancouver and is an Indoor Cycling Instructor at Yoga in Vancouver.

Outside the clinic, Sommer is a busy mom to two girls,  trains for triathlons, and is an adventure racer who loves yoga and spending time outdoors. She recently accomplished her lifelong dream and completed her first Ironman Canada in the summer of 2015!

             Nick Kew

BSc.Kin, RMT, NSCA-CPT

 

 

Nick Kew was born and raised in North Vancouver, and has been working in the area as a Personal Trainer for over four years. He received his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Queen’s University in May 2011, and continued to expand his knowledge by working in a variety of capacities. These included working with seniors in a rehabilitation setting, instructing youths for sport performance, and training competitive as well as recreational athletes. Nick graduated from the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy in August 2014, is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia, and is a member of the Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of British Columbia. He is also a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and runs training sessions at Fuel Fitness in North Vancouver. (www.fuelfitness.co)

Nick has an extensive health and fitness background, which includes over 10 years of competitive ice hockey experience, and over 5 years of experience in combative sports and martial arts. He enjoys drawing from his experiences as an athlete, trainer, student, and teacher to provide every client with the therapeutic treatment necessary to efficiently reach their goals. His approach to massage therapy is based on locating the causal factors of any problems, and addressing those factors as a part of an effective rehabilitation or injury prevention plan. Nick has enjoyed helping a wide range of clients and athletes, including Nashville Predators 2012 second round draft pick Colton Sissons. He is excited to join the Bloom team and looks forward to helping you too!
