Creative and Thoughtful Gift-Giving!

December 2nd already???  Where does the time go? No need to stress about holiday gift giving this year…we have some great ideas for you right here.  How about making this year a little different?  Think local and support small local businesses and your community!

How about you give the gift of health by purchasing a gift certificate for a massage, chiropractic or naturopathic session at Bloom Family Wellness Centre? (www.bloomwellness.com)

Everyone — yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local Canadian hair salon or barber?

Perhaps a Gym or Yoga membership or a few personal training sessions would be appreciated?  It’s appropriate for all ages who are thinking about health improvement. (www.jodiboatesathletics.com) (www.goodlifefitness.com) (www.yyoga.ca) (www.sweetyogabliss.ca)

Who wouldn’t love to get their car detailed?  Small, Canadian owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.

Are you one of those extravagant givers who thinks nothing of plunking down the $$$$ on a flat-screen TV?  Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like their driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or rounds at the local golf course. (www.greatcanadianlandscaping.com)

There are a million owner-run restaurants — all offering gift certificates.  And, if your intended isn’t the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen coffees or breakfasts at their favourite local breakfast joint. (www.joeysrestaurants.com) or (Delany’s Coffee in Edgemont Village)

Remember, this isn’t about big National chains — this is about supporting your local home town Canadians to keep their doors open.

How many people couldn’t use an oil change for their car, truck, or motorcycle done at a shop run by a local Canadian?

Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? She would LOVE the services of a local cleaning service for a day.

My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW I can find some young person who is trying to get their repair business up and running. (Computer Gnomes Consulting Inc. on Lonsdale)

OK, you were looking for something more personal.

Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves.  They make jewellery, pottery, glassworks, carved wooden boxes, and many more beautiful items.  (www.weeannounce.com) (www.shopgirlygirls.com) (www.indigostar.ca)

Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and businesses and leave your server a nice tip.

So there you have it….a million DIFFERENT ways to give a thoughtful gift this Christmas!  Make Christmas about caring for others and in turn encouraging small Canadian businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams.

And, when we care about other Canadians, we care about our communities.  The benefits come back to us in ways we couldn’t imagine.

Make THIS your new Canadian Christmas tradition.
